ABNA24 - The Secretary-General of the World Assembly of Shia Studies has issued a powerful statement saluting the unwavering nonchalance, bravery, and honor of the Lur people of the Zagros Mountain range, describing them as the “unbreakable backbone” of Iran’s Islamic identity.

The full text of Ayat Peyman’s message to the proud people of Zagros is as follows:

In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

To the great, noble, and proud people of Zagros;
To the courageous and faithful nomadic tribes of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Lorestan, Ilam, and the hero-producing south of Islamic Iran:

Peace be upon you—people whose steadfast stature recalls the might of the Zagros mountains, and whose pure hearts mirror faith and loyalty to divine and national values.

The land of Zagros has throughout history been the cradle of men whose names are forever intertwined with zeal, courage, honor, and chivalry. These colossal mountain ranges have for centuries narrated the epic of a people who never flinched before hardships or great historical trials. With unwavering faith and will, they have kept the banner of dignity and honor aloft. At no point in history did they submit to foreign invaders. Alexander, Genghis, Timur, and Mahmud Hotak all carried the dream of conquering this people and this land to their graves.

You are the children of that proud lineage—the lineage of those who, through history’s most difficult passages, preserved their culture, faith, and identity. The memory of your brave ancestors—recognized across the pages of Iran’s history as symbols of resistance, nobility, and perseverance—continues to shine like a bright lantern illuminating the path of today’s generations.

Zagros is not just a geography; Zagros is a soul—a soul brimming with nobility, faith, hospitality, and zeal. In the embrace of these ancient mountains, a people have flourished whose culture is rich in ethics, solidarity, devotion to faith, and love of homeland. The original Lur nomads, with their ancient traditions and chivalrous spirit, have always been among the firm pillars of Islamic Iran’s cultural identity.

In contemporary times, when the Islamic homeland faced a great trial, the zealous youth of this land entered the field with faith and sincerity, standing in the front ranks of the Sacred Defense [Iran–Iraq war, 1980–88], defending their land and values. The massive presence of warriors from this region during the years of the Sacred Defense—offering thousands of lofty martyrs, proud veterans, and devoted sacrifice-makers—has added yet another golden page to the glorious history of the Zagros people in the modern era. Pages that will never be erased from the historical memory of this nation.

Today, that same lofty spirit of heroism and solidarity, faith and zeal, lives on among you, noble people. A spirit that is a great asset for the dignity and progress of society and a guarantor of continuing the path of the martyrs and sacrifice-makers of this land. Wherever loyalty, nobility, perseverance, and defense of divine and human values are spoken of, the name of the Lur people and the Zagros-dwelling nomads shines bright and proud.

As one of your children, on behalf of the World Assembly of Shia Studies, I bow with the utmost respect and devotion before the cultural grandeur, resolute faith, and admirable proud heritage of the noble people of this land. I honor the memory of all the lofty-ranking martyrs, proud veterans, and dear sacrifice-makers of this region.

There is no doubt that the bright future of this land depends on people who—like you—continue the path of dignity and honor with faith, empathy, courage, and loyalty to divine and human values, keeping the torch of their culture and identity ablaze for future generations.

Finally, I beseech the Almighty God to grant the dear and noble people of Zagros enduring dignity, health, solidarity, and ever-increasing pride. I hope that the glorious banner of this land’s culture and faith, by holding fast to the lofty spirit of our Leader and our martyred commanders, remains raised and radiant in your hands.
